Change, in today’s world of work, is constant. You can see the ramifications reflected in the paper nearly every day as yet another company restructures in order to meet competitive challenges.
With this is mind, it is a natural and critical business strategy for companies to continually review their talent base to ensure efficiencies and financial stability. Anticipated and welcomed or not, these adjustments often result in selected job cuts or significant reductions in force.
There is a delicate interplay between the emotional and practical decisions that must be made once the decision to restructure or downsize becomes a reality. Management must take action to support the restructuring decisions within budgeted guidelines, and at the same time, offer a sound process for employee transition.
